Commuters will need to leave extra time if they’re planning on getting around the city by car this weekend.
The Gardiner Expressway is closed both directions from Hwy. 427/Queen Elizabeth Way to Carlaw Ave. from 11:00 p.m. Friday, October 21 to 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24 for annual fall maintenance.
City staff say a full closure is needed to ensure the safety of the public as well as the workers involved.
Crews are tackling a variety of tasks including resurfacing and repairs, shoulder re-grading, paving, sign installation, inspection and chipping of 15 bridges between Jameson Avenue west to Kipling Avenue, and pavement line painting.
Motorists are asked to use alternate routes such as Lake Shore Blvd., the Queensway, King St., Bloor St. and Evans Ave. Timing to traffic signals have been changed on those roads to help smooth the traffic flow.
The city has a web-based map to help those with travel plans.
