A Toronto study out of University of Toronto Scarborough has found that 75% of Toronto families cannot afford licensed child care for their children. The report says that there is, therefore, no sense in the government adding more spaces (which will cost upwards of $1 billion) if parents can’t even afford it now.
One of the study authors, Gordon Cleveland, joined the show to give us an overview. Then Andrea Mrozek, Program Director of Cardus Family, joined to discuss these findings.
What should Ontario and Toronto do to address this? If you have a child, is it your responsibility to be able to afford one?
