An 18 year old Toronto man is facing a number of charges, including one of attempted murder after an incident in which three Toronto police officers were injured.
According to police, officers stopped a vehicle on Baldwin Street, west of Spadina Avenue on Saturday, October 1st.
During the investigation, the driver left the scene, injuring an officer who had his arm inside the vehicle, and injuring another officer’s leg.
The suspect was then pursued by police on their bicycles as he fled southbound on the Spadina Avenue streetcar tracks, before turning right on King Street West.
At this point, the driver made a U turn on King Street West and drove directly at one of the officers, hitting him, knocking him to the ground, and running over his police bicycle.
He then fled the scene heading southbound on Spadina Avenue.
Following an appeal to the public for their assistance in tracking down the suspect, Kulvir Singh Bhatia was arrested on Thursday.
He faces a total of six charges including attempted murder, possession of marijuana, escaping lawful custody, two counts of failure to stop after an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving a motor vehicle without a license.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
