A Long Island Rail Road collided with a work train late Saturday night causing three passenger cars to derail.
According to officials, the train, carrying about 600 passengers, was travelling at normal speed when the collision took place.
It happened about 30 km east of Manhattan near New Hyde Park Station.
It is not clear if the work was moving or not at the time of the crash.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement hours later saying “early reports indicate the number of injured is at 11 however, none of which are considered to be serious”.
The accident comes just nine days after a passenger train crashed into a busy terminal in Hoboken, New Jersey that claimed the life of one while injuring more than 100 people.
