In a new poll from Angus Reid and the CBC says 68 per cent of Canadians believe minorities should be doing more to fit in with mainstream society instead of keeping their own customs and languages. The poll also found that 79 per cent of respondents said Canada’s immigration and refugee policies should “give priority to Canada’s own economic and workforce needs” rather than giving “priority to people in crisis abroad.” Experts say this represents a hardening of Canadians attitude towards multiculturalism over time. When the same question was put to Americans, only 53 percent thought minorities need to better adjust.
Do you agree? Should minorities be doing more to fit in? Are Canadians’ attitudes towards multiculturalism hardening?
