Bay Street was partially closed for the second time since Wednesday afternoon after reports of falling glass from a SickKids hospital lab.
Toronto police said strong winds blew residual glass off on a ledge just below a window at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning. Shards were spotted at Bay and Walton streets around 4:30 this morning.
“Unfortunately, downtown there are a lot of highrise buildings, and these things are going to happen,” said Sgt. Tom Sumaisar.
TTC buses were re-routed for almost two hours while the area was closed for maintenance crews to clean up the glass. All lanes reopened around 6:30 a.m.
The same intersection was blocked off around 5:30 p.m. yesterday for more than an hour.
Police are asking pedestrians to stay alert while walking in the area.
