Brenna MacPhee has turned down a job interview with cosmetics company The Body Shop because they asked her to don a “full face of makeup” for the meeting.
The 23-year-old received an email from the company ahead of her chat outlining where and when to show up. It also included the line “***DRESSCODE: Please wear all black business attire and a full face of makeup as it is our dresscode in the store.”
“I can’t work for a place that expects female interview candidates to wear a full face of makeup,” MacPhee said here in an interview with CBC News.
“I thought [they] would hire me based on my previous experience and qualifications, not based on how I look.”
Brenna emailed The Body Shop to inform them of her disappointment with the interview process, but they never responded
Editor’s Note: it appears that Brenna emailed a “DO NOT REPLY” email address, which means they in fact never received her message.
