Have you received a Home Energy Report from your energy provider?
Stafford Show listener John told Mike via email that every 4-6 months he receives one of those reports from his energy provider, where his consumption is compared to his neighbours’.
His reports usually indicate that he’s using 26% more hydro than surrounding homes, despite the fact that he’s spent well over $10,000 upgrading appliances (fridge, dish washer, washer and dryer, etc), his water heater, insulation, and lighting.
John ditched his hot tub, shut down his pond and waterfall, stopped using a deep freezer, and took other steps to conserve energy.
His house, when built 22-years-ago, was government certified R-2000 (best-in-class energy-efficient homes that include high levels of insulation, clean air features and measures to help protect the environment.)
John remarks that “I don’t know what else to do to improve the efficiency of our home, but I don’t need someone who I pay a very expensive service to pointing out that we aren’t doing a very good job when compared to others.”
