500 lucky drivers got to use the new HOT lanes this morning between Burlington and Oakville. These high-occupancy toll lanes are the first of their kind in Canada. 3,400 people applied for the permits, which cost $180 for 3 months, but only 500 were given out. The permits will expire and be resold every 3 months. Drivers with at least one other passenger are allowed to use the lanes for free. Driving on an HOT lane without a permit can land you a $110 fine and 3 demerit points.
Do you think the HOT lanes will make a positive or negative difference on the roads? What was your morning commute like today?
