Surrey Creep Catchers has apologized after an RCMP officer was incorrectly identified as the target in one of the group’s ambushes last week.
A Wednesday night bust resulted in an RCMP officer being arrested by police, who has since been released from custody with certain conditions.
Ryan Laforge, president of the Surrey group, recorded the ambush on Facebook. In the video, he calls out the first name of the accused as he approaches the individual.
Viewers began posting comments, many claiming to know the officer in question. However, the wrong name was cited in some comments, leading to the wrong RCMP officer being named.
Police are asking citizens to refrain from similar actions in the future, so that the authorities can do their job without interference from the public.
When speaking to CBC News, Laforge stated: “I hope that given what we are doing is to protect the kids, I would hope that there would be a little bit of understanding.” He’s hoping that the innocent RCMP officer caught up in this story will forgive his organization.
