After a year-and-a-half probe, Toronto police have laid charges in an ATM fraud investigation.
It’s alleged various bank machines were targeted by the accused, with the installation of skimming equipment, and that victims were recorded entering their PINs on the keyboard.
That information was then used to commit credit card fraud.
On Wednesday September 8, search warrants were issued and three people were arrested.
Charges for 55 year old Valeri Gueorgiev, 35 year old Svetloza Aleksiev and 29 year old Phil Stavros, all of Toronto, include fraud, unauthorized use of credit card data, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.
Police are reminding the public to always cover the keypad when entering PINs at ATMs and point-of-sale machines to avoid becoming a victim.
