11 people are facing a total of 55 charges following a two month long investigation into counterfeit cheques in Durham region.
Police say the investigation, dubbed ‘Project Defiance’ revolved around counterfeit and NSF cheques cashed at numerous financial institutions and money service providers across the region by a number of people.
More than $70,000 worth of fraudulent cheque transactions were uncovered during the investigation.
Five search warrants were executed on three residences and two vehicles in Oshawa on August 30th when property and drugs were also seized.
All 11 accused are facing fraud charges, with 10 facing forged document charges.
One person is also facing a number of drug related charges.
Police say the investigation is on going and further charges are expected.
