“Have you ever smoked marijuana?” Answering that question at the border could get you barred from entering America. Len Saunders, an immigration lawyer with a practice in Blaine, Washington advised “We should raise awareness that if you are crossing over the border, not to admit to using recreational marijuana. Just deny, deny, deny.”
Canadian Matthew Harvey was asked this question and he answered honestly. In Canada he is a legal medicinal user, and was on his way to a state where it was also legal for medicinal users.
Harvey is now banned from entering the United States, which will make it especially hard for him to take his four year old daughter to Disneyland in California.
With legalization upon us, this issue could grow into a major problem for Canadians entering the United States.
Canadians are being advised not to answer the question, as, according to Len Saunders, you are not legally obliged to answer the question.
Matthew Harvey has different advice, he says just say no.
What would you do?
