It appears home sharing is gaining popularity, not only in the province, but the city as well.
And a new report from Airbnb also finds those who are offering up their homes for others to stay in, are seeing some financial benefits as well.
The typical host earns about $3,900 annually, but in Toronto, the number is about $4,800 every year.
The report finds there are about 15,000 hosts in Ontario, with over half of those, 8,600 in Toronto.
Most hosts are sharing their homes, few nights every month, just to help make ends meet.
More than half of those renting accommodations in Ontario are Canadian; 71% are from within the province alone.
The average length of a stay for an Airbnb guest is about 5.4 nights, in Ontario 4.5 nights, and in Toronto it’s nearly seven nights.
“Everyday Ontarians are embracing Airbnb. This report reinforces the fact that Airbnb is an economic opportunity for families and individuals who share their homes, allowing them to earn a little bit of extra money to pay the bills. For guests, it offers an affordable way to see the province and visit loved ones.”- Airbnb Canada Public Policy Manager Alex Dagg.
