The Ontario Provincial Police are reporting the deadliest Labour Day Long Weekend in 20 years.
They say that while the data is preliminary, 14 people were killed over the weekend, including 12 road fatalities, one marine fatality and one off-road vehicle death.
Meanwhile the OPP also say that 800 distracted/inattentive driving charges were laid over the weekend as they looked to clamp down on the offence during a province wide distracted driving campaign.
According to an August 30th release, distracted driving-related deaths are on track to double the number of impaired driving-related fatalities this year.
This latest campaign brings the total number of distracted driving charges laid to date this year to over 8,800.
