San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick again refused to stand for the national anthem last night, prior to a NFL pre-season game versus the San Diego Chargers.
This time, however, he was not alone– fellow teammate Eric Reid took a knee alongside him. Reid had approached him to say he supported Kaepernick’s message. Meanwhile, it was “Salute the Military” night at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. The city is also well known for its several military bases.
Kaepernick was booed by the crowd whenever he took a snap throughout the first half, and was cheered only when he scrambled. The 28-year-old quarterback has recently been protesting against the treatment of African Americans by police officers. He received a lot of flack by fans, teammates, and police organizations for wearing socks depicting cartoon pigs wearing police hats.
Is there a time and place to protest?
