Oshin Kiszko is a 6-year-old boy from Australia suffering from a rare form of brain cancer known as medulloblastoma. His parents have just won court battle against his doctors who were forcing chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatment. His mother explained, “I was always for quality of life versus quality. Children with medulloblastoma go through years of what I see as torture […] If he can’t live for very long I would like him home and have quality time with us as a family, not being prodded and poked. Not being frightened, being loved, being cared for. Having his friends and family around”.
What would you do in this situation, if you had a 6-year-old suffering from cancer? Would you try chemotherapy or alternative and natural treatments and give them a chance of survival? Or no treatment at all and instead make the most of their last days surrounded by family?
Do you agree with this ruling? Do parents have the total right to make this kind decision? Or should you try whatever you can for that chance of survival? Do you have any stories?
