An Ottawa teacher’s aide has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after sexually exploiting a teenage boy over the course of two years.
Ontario Court Justice Celynne Dorval threw out 46-year-old Katherine Kitts’ defence that this all was a lapse in judgement and the meetings with the boy were spontaneous. Kitts sometimes would prepare an air mattress in the back of her minivan for planned sexual encounters, and texted him 15,000 times.
The victim’s mother said she and her son are relieved the case was over and he is looking forward to moving on with his life.
Kitts will serve two years of probation after the completion of her jail sentence.
Is there a double standard here in the sentencing, or has justice been served? Should there have been a harsher penalty?
