A man is in custody following a police pursuit that began in Durham region and ended in Toronto and saw the suspect drive the wrong way on Highway 401 for 10.km.
The chase began after police were called to Brock Road in Pickering at around 10 p.m. following reports of an impaired driver.
Police then pursued the van, which was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway for 10.km. before the van crashed at the Meadowvale Road ramp in Scarborough.
The 31 year old driver then fled the scene of the crash on foot before being arrested a short time later.
He was not found to have been impaired, however according to police, the van had been reported stolen from Peel region.
Charges of dangerous driving, flight from police and possession of stolen property have now been laid.
