The Executive Director of Pride Toronto has announced his resignation from the organisation.
The announcement came on Mathieu Chantelois’ Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.
I presented my resignation to the PT board and I currently work at Cineplex Media. It was time for me to move. I wish Pride the best!

The resignation was confirmed on the Pride Toronto Facebook page in a post which read:
”Today Pride Toronto announces that Mathieu Chantelois resigned from his position as Executive Director to pursue an opportunity with another organization.
In the coming weeks, Pride Toronto will begin the search for a new Executive Director.
In the interim, the Board of Directors will provide strategic direction and support to the organization until the search process is completed.”
Chantelois has faced criticism in the past number of weeks regarding his handling of a protest, staged by the Black Lives Matter group during this years Pride Parade on July 3rd.
The group brought the parade to a standstill and presented a list of demands, which controversially included banning police floats from future Pride parades.
The parade was not allowed to resume until Chantelois signed the list.
However, just one day later, Chantelois distanced himself from the demand that police be banned from future parades, saying that he signed the list to keep the parade moving and that any ban on any group would have to be decided by the community at large.
Chantelois has served as the executive director of Pride Toronto since January 2015.
