Fans of The Tragically Hip are gearing up for the first of three concerts the band will play in Toronto at the ACC, starting Wednesday night.
And it will be a bittersweet event.
They’re also gearing up to say goodbye to the band they’ve grown up with.
It was revealed earlier this year front man Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
But the band would still tour their latest album, “Man Machine Poem.”
In celebration of this final tour, Mayor John Tory has proclaimed Wednesday August 10th “The Tragically Hip Day” in the city.
A live tribute booth will be set up outside Gate 6 at the ACC for fans, young and old, to record a short video message of their favorite memory of the band, or of their most memorable Hip story.
“The spirit of The Tragically Hip will continue to inspire Canadian music lovers in Toronto and across the country.” – Toronto Mayor John Tory
The Hip will also play shows here Friday and Sunday night. The tour will wrap up August 20th, with the final show in their hometown of Kingston.
