Senior swimmer Tom Bartlett of Waterloo is preparing to make waves on Wednesday by crossing Lake Ontario on his birthday to raise funds to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Tom will be 69 years old during his 51KM swim across the lake and will turn 70 years old by the time he’s out of the water. After two years of training, Tom has recently set a world record for Lake Erie on July 4, 2016 as the oldest person to have crossed 19.3km in 7:44:58.
Bartlett’s goal is to raise $50,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation whilst setting another world record for Lake Ontario as the oldest person to have crossed.
Tom is getting ready to swim on August 10 at Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club (weather permitting) and is determined to complete the trek in 24hours or less!
