Toronto taxi drivers have now voted of job action. They could be on strike as soon as August 17th because City Hall is moving too slowly to enforce regulations for Uber drivers that came into effect in July. The city Councillors voted for a bylaw to regulate Uber, obliging require UberX drivers to get insurance and pay $0.30 to the city per ride.
Uber claims they’re complying but taxi drivers say otherwise. Taxi drivers are frustrated with the bylaws for ride sharing not being taken seriously nor being implemented and “Making a mockery out of city hall, out of law and order of Canada… it’s a joke,” according to Paul Sekhon from the United Taxi Workers Association.
Tasha is joined by Paul Sekhon to discuss the impending strike. Uber Driver Julian also calls in (9:52) to provide some feedback from an Uber Drivers perspective.
