The International Paralympic Committee has decided to ban all Russian athletes from the Parapan games in September.
Officials with Paralympics say the decision is in regards to doping concerns due to what the International Paralympic Committee President Sir Philip Craven says is a problem with Russia’s anti-doping system, which he feels needs a complete makeover.
“The Russian Paralympic Committee are unable to ensure compliance with and enforcement of the IPC anti-doping code and the world anti-doping code within their own national jurisdiction and they cannot fulfil its fundamental obligation as an IPC member.
“As a result, the Russian Paralympic Committee is suspended with immediate effect.”
It’s expected that the Russian Paralympic Committee will be looking to appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The 2016 Paralympics will begin on Wednesday, September 7th and as a result there will now be 267 Russian athletes in 18 sports absent from the Games.
