Newly elected councillor Michael Ford of Ward 2 in Etobicoke North has officially taken the oath of office at Toronto City Hall.
Ford had the opportunity to speak with Mayor John Tory on Wednesday and says he is now going to get down to business with community investments and returning phone calls.
The 22-year-old nephew now embarks on continuing with the legacy of Ford Nation picking up from where his uncles Rob and Doug left off.
The younger Ford says that he was “brought up in a family that is dedicated to public service and giving back to the community growing up around Rob and Doug.” Michael admits to the fact that he changed his last name to Ford when he became an adult, because his father was never really a big part of his life.
Ford says he managed to get around to the doors of about 10,000 residents in Ward 2 where he was greeted by strong support over his two-a-and-half month campaign.
According to Doug Ford, Michael Ford is now the youngest councillor ever at City Hall.
The Ford family has held the seat for Ward 2 since 2000.
