Chicago White Sox ace pitcher Chris Sale was suspended five days for “violating team rules, for insubordination and for destroying team equipment,” the club announced on Sunday.
Sale cut up the team’s retro-1976 jerseys prior to Saturday’s game versus Detroit. Reportedly, he felt the V-neck collars were uncomfortable, and destroyed so many of them that the White Sox wore uniforms from their 1983 season instead.
Sale has been in trade rumours recently as Chicago has been underperforming this season. This also wasn’t his first altercation with White Sox management. He is a five-time all-star and leads the American League in wins with 14.
