For the first time in 12 years, the number of crimes reported to police across the country has gone up.
Statistics Canada reports the crime severity index, which measures the volume of reports and how serious they are, rose five per cent in 2015.
The overall crime rate also rose, by three per cent,
The agency says the rise in both measurements was due to more incidents of fraud, breaking and entering, robbery, and homicide.
It says there were almost 1.9 million Criminal Code incidents, excluding traffic, reported in 2015, 70,000 more than the year before.
