As the investigation continues into Sunday’s shooting which left three Baton Rouge officers dead, we are learning more about the gunman.
Gavin Eugene Long, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri opened fire on officers near a convenience store, killing the trio, and wounding three others.
Long, who was dressed in black, was then shot and killed by police.
Government documents indicate Long was a military veteran who served five years in the Marines, with tours including Iraq.
Investigators indicate the ambush shows signs of being well planned and that Long was “certainly seeking out police.”
Documents show Long tried to change his name to Cosmo Setepenra last year.
A website was found using that alias and the man describes himself as a Freedom Strategist, Author, Mental Game Coach, Nutritionist and Spiritual Advisor.
Several videos of the man were posted to YouTube.
In one video posted July 10th, the man speaks about the protests in Baton Rouge and what he called oppression.
He says: “100 percent have been successful through fighting back, through bloodshed. Zero have been successful over just simply protesting.
It doesn’t. It has never worked and it never will. You’ve got to fight back. That’s the only way a bully knows to quit.”
In an earlier video, the man says that if anything happens to him, he doesn’t want to be linked to any groups.
