Police have revealed that a body found east of Calgary in the rural community of Chestemere, is in fact Taliyah Leigh Marsman.
The sad discovery was shared by Calgary police on Facebook late Thursday night. Thus ends the Amber alert and begins the process of pressing first degree murder charges against the perpetrator.
The body was discovered Thursday afternoon but investigators did not reveal the exact location as to protect the integrity of the site for further investigation.
Global News Calgary has confirmed that 46-year-old Edward Downey will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Police are not officially releasing his name until he has appeared before a judge. Downey has prior convictions for trafficking cocaine and in connection to prostitution.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., on Monday, police were called to a home in the northwest Calgary neighbourhood of Panorama after family members of a female resident were unable to reach her. The woman was found deceased in the home. The victim was identified as Sara Baillie, 34, of Calgary. Baillie’s death was ruled a homicide.
