Approximately 53,000 TTC customers who purchase metro passes and have them delivered in the mail won’t be able to experience that kind of convenience in the month of August, as the commission is asking them to now buy them at their local station or vending machines due to a possible strike or lockout with Canada Post.
Brad Ross is the TTC’s spokesperson who tells Talk Radio AM640 that they just can’t afford to take a risk with sending tens of thousands of passes in the mail only to have them get stuck, lost, disappear or not delivered at all.
Ross also says that those customers who currently subscribe to the TTC’s prepaid Metropass Discount Plan will not see the payment for August deducted at the end of this month, but it will be credited from the remaining amount of MDP discount and regular pass.
According to Ross those customers will be given credit for the difference.
Canada Post is currently in talks with the Postal Workers Union in hopes of averting a strike or lockout.
