Drivers across Ontario who are associated with Uber will now be automatically insured when the app turns on to the moment the passengers leave their vehicle.
The province’s insurance regulator has now given the go ahead for the policy to be completed for cars that are privately carrying customers that take the ride-sharing service.
According to the Financial Services Commission this policy will be covering all Uber drivers, the owners of the vehicle and their passengers under blanket fleet coverage.
However, when the Uber driver turns the app off, they will no longer be covered under the policy and they will then be covered under their own insurance policies.
The provincial government had recently sanctioned regulations in regards to the Insurance Act, which gives the insurance company an opportunity to create a commercial fleet policy for all ride-sharing programs.
