What’s the latest food trend to hit Canada: Sushi? No. Kale? Nope. It’s gourmet hamburgers!
According to a report, at least half of Canadians eat a hamburger a week, which amounts to an $8 billion industry. The latest to dive into the trend is Boston Pizza, who is hoping to cash-in on their line of hamburgers.
Acme Burger, Gourmet Burger Co. and Gangster Burger were all cooked by the competition, and mega U.S. chain Carl’s Jr. disappeared. Toronto is still crazy for burgers, and there’s no shortage of chefs who think they make the best one. They’re bolstered by recent data that shows nearly half of Canadians eat hamburgers at least once a week and 3.7 burgers per month — even more than pizza, which consumers eat on average 3.2 times a month, according to foodincanada.com.
