A Toronto police officer is facing charges in relation to the death of a suicidal man in High Park in February of this year.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, a man sought the assistance of a police officer in regards to a suicide attempt by another man inside High Park, at around 2.p.m. on February 2nd.
The suicidal 19 year old was pronounced death at 3.30.p.m. that same afternoon.
According to a release issued by the province’s police watchdog on Thursday afternoon, Const. Kyle Upjohn now faces one charge of criminal negligence causing death and one charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection with the death.
He is scheduled to appear in court on August 4th.
No further details have been provided by the agency, who say they will not be commenting further on the investigation as it is now before the court system.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
