A couple was lying on the grass beneath a tree in Trinity Bellwoods Friday evening when a bough fell, striking a man, who died from his injuries soon after. The tree branch appeared to have fallen from about 12 metres, narrowly missing his wife, who told bystanders she is pregnant.
“I was just sitting over on the picnic bench. I heard a crack, and within a second it was on top of them,” said Tyson Bigio. “It was like lightning.” A crowd gathered immediately at the south end of the park, with two people performing CPR until paramedics arrived. Others comforted the woman.
“She was just hysterical. She kept yelling, ‘I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant,’” said Thaddeus Switzman.
And, in California, actor Anton Yelchin was struck by his car and killed. His car slid down his inclined-driveway while in neutral, and pinned him between the car and a brick wall. Yelchin was discovered by friends, when he did not arrive on time for a rehearsal.
For these two incidents, they could almost be called a case of wrong place/wrong time. Have you ever had an incident that was a close call?
