Don’t have an Android TV Box yet? You may have difficulty finding one in the near future if Bell, Rogers and Videotron get their way!
The three media giants have set their sights on five Canadian vendors who sell the devices that allow users to easily access pirated content after paying a one-time fee.
Sources say MtlFreeTv, iTVBox, Android Bros Sales, WatchNSaveNow and My Electronics were hit first with an injunction because it was easy to get a quick injunction against them, but the net will be widened to include similar companies operating in Canada.
Prices for an Android Box range from $40 to $250.
Bell, Rogers and Videotron allege that the five companies named in the injunction are committing copyright infringement, and are selling the devices with the knowledge that they will be used for illegal purposes.
