50 people have been killed and 53 more have been seriously injured following a terrorist attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando Florida. According to Orlando Police a gunman, armed with an automatic weapon, a hand gun and another device began taking shots inside the club early in the morning.
Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and an officer inside the club which eventually evolved into a hostage situation.
The shooter has been identified as Omar Mateen, an American citizen with parents from Afghanistan.
Over 100 police personnel responded to the call as a decision was made to engage the suspect early Sunday morning. Police believe the suspect was shot and killed by police. Orlando Police have taken to twitter suggesting up to 20 people have been killed with over 42 people injured.
The FBI has been contacted and is taking over the investigation.
