The Pan Am and Parapan Am Games may have come and gone, but new information has come to light which may have taxpayers seeing red.
An audit of the 2015 games finds they came in over budget, and not by a few dollars.
Another $342 million was spent over and above the reported $2.4 billion dollar cost, although officials had said spending came in on budget.
But the Auditor General found the province still shelled out more than $5 million dollars in performance bonuses to over fifty executives.
Bonnie Lysyk says the payout was based on three criteria: staying until their contracts were completed, and meeting the organization’s net operating and capital budgets.
However she says there were still some positives to report.
“Nonetheless, Ontarians can take pride. They took place on time and without major incident, and Canada had it’s best-ever Pan Am and Parapan Am medal counts. Ontario also gets new world-class athletics facilities for its citizens to enjoy.”
