French emergency officials have reported a freak lightning strike at a park in France has left 11 people seriously injured.
Reports claim that the group were attending a birthday party at the time when the freak weather event occurred.
The 11 people involved – eight of them children and three children – were all injured in the strike with four of the children being rushed to hospital in life threatening condition.
A reporter who was close to the park said it was caused by a spring storm that suddenly rolled into the area.
An off-duty fireman who was in the area visiting a nearby museum saw the incident and ran immediately to the scene to offer help.
A Paris fire service spokesman said that the situation could have been much worse without the off duty officials actions.
