CAA Manitoba doesn’t think increased fines and more demerit points will cut down on the number of distracted drivers.
In Ontario, drivers caught in the act are fined $400 (which could be bumped up to $1,000 if the ticket ends up in court) and are hit with three demerit points.
In Manitoba the fine is $200, but your licence will be hit with five demerit points.
PEI is home to the strictest penalties in Canada: $500 – $1,200 fine and 5 demerits.
What do you think needs to be done to guarantee a reduction in the number of distracted drivers on our roads?
