New legislation will be introduced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that will protect transgender people here in Canada.
The bill will be introduced on the International Day Against Homphobia and Transphobia and it will be brought forward in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
Gender identity in the Canadian Human Rights Act has been in the works for at least 12 years.
Many of the recent attempts to pass legislation failed due to members of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Prime Minister Trudeau has asked Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to include “gender identity” with race, religion, age, sex and sexual orientation to go under protection with the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code.
