Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has completed his assessment of the damage done by the wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta and he has announced that the government will extend employment insurance benefits for three western regions.
The three economic regions were excluded when changes were first made, but Trudeau says the recent conditions to the fire-ravaged area have shown that they need more help in areas that were hit hard by the wildfire.
The budget released in March added extra employment insurance coverage for 12 areas that were badly damaged. However, southern British Columbia, Edmonton and southern Saskatchewan were not included at that time.
Prime Minister Trudeau says the additional help from the government will take place in July.
