Halton Police say a Brantford woman is facing several theft and fraud related charges after allegedly stealing from her employer.
An Oakville resident reported to police that between January 2016 and April 2016 a woman who she employed as a housekeeper stole approximately $20,000 worth of jewelry while cleaning her residence.
The female housekeeper had unsupervised access during the thefts and also stole several pieces of identification from her employer, redirected her mail and applied for several credit cards in the employer’s name.
The 41 year old housekeeper purchased several items with the illegally obtained credit cards including large household appliances and building materials.
Sherry Lori-Lynn Champagne was arrested by police on May 12th and a subsequent search warrant conducted at her Brantford residence recovered many of the items obtained with the unlawful credit cards and a quantity of the stolen jewelry.
She is charged with 2 counts of theft over $5000, 2 counts of theft under $5000, 4 counts of identity fraud, 4 counts of fraud under $5000 and fraudulently re-direct mail.
Champagne was held in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing at Milton Provincial Court later today.
