Two major Canadian banks have signed on to Apple Pay that will allow users to use the mobile payment system.
Royal Bank and CIBC say they’ll Interac debit and major credit card payments through compatible Apple devices starting today.
The technology will allow users to load cards onto their iPhones and Apple Watches and make in-store purchases using their devices.
The 3 other big banks including Bank of Montreal, TD and Scotiabank say the feature is “coming soon.”
The system launched in Canada last year but the big banks had been reluctant to sign up.
Apple has been pleased with how Apple Pay has been received since it’s initial launch in the U.S.
Since then, the service has been available in six countries in various forms.
