The Better Business Bureau is warning the public to do their research before opening their wallets to the thousands who have fled Fort McMurray in recent days.
Fake websites, disingenuous crowdfunding campaigns, and other schemes are lurking, trying to capitalize on the tragedy in Alberta and the public’s willingness to give in this time of need.
The BBB of B.C. told CBC News that people should “avoid websites that contain spelling mistakes or inconsistencies in the way it’s written,” or contain “faulty links that don’t go anywhere.”
A more legitimate way to donate funds to Fort McMurray residents can be found by going through the Red Cross HERE.
