More and more doctors are denying painkillers to Canadians in need of relief, due to the growing number of opioid overdoses and increase in number of pills being sold illicitly.
Leonard Briere of Winnipeg told The National Post here that he injured his hand and wrist in a gun accident back in November 2013, and has relied on Percocet and OxyContin (together) to get him through life.
In order to avoid becoming addicted to the drugs, he cuts himself off, cold turkey, every six months. He admits that he experiences hell when experience withdrawal, but it’s worth it to keep his addiction grounded.
When he moved to B.C. for work, he was unable to find a doctor to prescribe him the painkillers he needed in order to hold down a job. His pain unchecked, he was eventually forced to resign from his job. He moved back to Winnipeg where his family physician provided him once again with his painkiller combo.
