The nephew of Rob Ford says he will run for his late uncle’s vacated Councillor seat.
This after Toronto city council voted unanimously to hold a byelection in Ward 2, Etobicoke-North.
Within an hour, Michael Ford announced he has resigned his position as school board trustee to enter the race.
“Three generations of the Ford family have served our community. I want to build on this legacy of public service, and that means showing up at your door when you need assistance,” he said in a statement.
“My message to the residents of Ward 2 is simple: together, we can accomplish great things for our community.”
Council voted 40-0 in favour of a byelection, to be held July 25.
The Ward 2 councillor seat was vacated after Rob Ford died in March following a long battle with cancer.
