Toronto police have confirmed that human remains found in the Lavender Creek Trail area on Wednesday belong to Rigat Ghirmay, who was murdered in 2013.
Police were called to the scene in the area of Weston Road and St. Clair Avenue West on Wednesday afternoon, after a man looking through the brush found a bag that appeared to contain human remains, including a skull.
Forensic testing on the remains was then carried out and it was determined that belonged to the 28 year old Ghirmay.
Her torso had been found in a bag at a nearby trail in May of 2013.
Adonay Zekarias of Toronto was charged with first-degree murder in Ghirmay’s death in September of 2013,
That charge is expected to go to court next year.
Zekarias was also convicted of first-degree murder in the 2012 killing of 55 year old Mighisti Semret, whose body was found in a Cabbagetown laneway.
He is currently serving a life sentence for that crime, with no chance of parole for 25 years.
