Ted Cruz says if he wins the GOP nomination, he wants Carly Fiorina to be on the ticket with him.
Cruz made the announcement Wednesday at a stop in Indianapolis.
Fiorina, a former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, was the only woman to run in the Republican Party’s 2016 field of candidates. She would be the first woman vice-president in US history.
Cruz called his new running mate an “extraordinary leader” who has “shattered glass ceilings” in both business and politics.
Earlier this year, Fiorina abandoned her campaign but maintained support for Cruz during his run for the Republican nomination.
Cruz’s campaign took a serious blow when he lost all five state primaries that occurred Tuesday night to his opponent Donald Trump. He has been mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination before the party’s convention in July.
Fiorina said Wednesday that Cruz’s presidential bid isn’t over yet.
Donald Trump currently has 77 per cent of the delegates needed to win the nomination.
