There is mounting concern about the failure of Bombardier to deliver promised vehicles to Toronto.
And it’s not just the TTC which has waged a public battle with the company. Metrolinx is now adding it’s voice to the chorus.
According to the Globe and Mail, Bombardier was to deliver a prototype vehicle last year. That vehicle was to be tested ahead of the opening of light-rail lines along Eglinton and Finch Avenues, which are scheduled to start taking passengers in 2021.
Over 180 vehicles are needed to run both lines, and if they are not ready, the lines will not be able to open on time.
Earlier this week, Bombardier released a statement which stressed work on the delayed TTC streetcars would be expedited and made a top priority. But neither the Chair of the TTC, Josh Colle, nor TTC CEO Andy Byford seemed too impressed.
