Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling the beheading of a Canadian an act of cold-blooded murder.
He spoke at a cabinet retreat in Alberta shortly after government officials confirmed that a man who was beheaded in the Philippines by Muslim extremists was a Canadian.
The victim has been identified as 68-year-old John Ridsdel, of Calgary.
He was one of four tourists that were kidnapped last September by Abu Sayyaf militants.
They had threatened to kill one of the three male hostages if a large ransom wasn’t paid by 3 p.m. Monday local time(3 a.m. est).
Canadian Robert Hall is still being held along with a Norwegian man and a Filipino woman.
Prime Minister Trudeau says the responsibility rests squarely with the terrorist group who took him hostage.
He also extended condolences to the Ridsdel’s family and asked for their privacy to be respected.
